Jakarta (ANTARA) – South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Yoon Soon-gu stated that Indonesia is a crucial partner for South Korea in defense and security.

“Indonesia is a very important partner for us in defense and security sectors. We have established strong defense and security cooperation with Indonesia,” the ambassador said during the commemoration of the National Day and Armed Forces Day of the Republic of Korea in Jakarta on Thursday evening.

According to him, defense cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea has grown significantly across various sectors.

He cited the joint development of the advanced KF-21 Boramae fighter jet, which successfully moved past the development phase after both countries overcame operational challenges.

“We successfully carried out the joint development of the advanced fighter jet (KF-21). We succeeded in overcoming the difficulties. Thus, it has now concluded,” Yoon said.

The ambassador added that South Korea aims to bring this cooperation to a higher level through expanded defense dialogues and security collaborations.

“We are now moving toward another goal, an even higher one. It includes not just defense industry cooperation, but also defense dialogues and other areas that are vital to us,” he stated.

Attendees at the reception included Indonesia’s sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani, Hajj Minister Irfan Yusuf, and Regional Representative Council (DPD) Speaker Sultan Najamudin.

Diplomats from foreign missions in Jakarta, including the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia, were also in attendance.
