Beijing (ANTARA) – ANTARA News Agency has voiced support for strengthening partnerships among news agencies to jointly address challenges related to information verification and misinformation.
“ANTARA welcomes the strengthening cooperation among news agencies in three areas, including the exchange of reliable information and practices in information verification,” ANTARA President Director Abdul Hakim said in Beijing, China, on Thursday.
He expressed support for deeper collaboration during the Forum on Powering Intelligent Media, held as part of the 7th World Media Summit, which runs from Nov. 5 to 9.
Addressing the second area of cooperation, Hakim encouraged exchanges of knowledge on the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism while underscoring the importance of editorial innovation.
He noted that AI is transforming journalism at a remarkable pace. “This technology helps us translate various languages, analyze data, and disseminate news globally,” he said.
However, he warned that AI had also introduced new challenges, including misinformation, manipulated images, and blurred lines between reality and fabrication.
“Speed alone is not enough in the face of this new situation. The world needs reliable information. To ANTARA, this responsibility is deep-rooted in our history,” Hakim added.
He was referring to ANTARA’s role in transmitting news of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence to the international community. The agency was established on Dec. 13, 1937, nearly eight years before Independence Day.
“The technology we are using has changed over the past 90 years, but our core mission remains the same, spreading reliable information, serving the public, and connecting Indonesia to the world,” he said.
Hakim also endorsed stronger partnerships among news agencies in communicating information on global challenges, including energy security, climate change, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
Under the theme “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action,” the 7th World Media Summit has brought together nearly 500 delegates from around 330 mainstream media organizations, think tanks, government institutions, and international organizations from 112 countries.
