The construction of the PLTS is being conducted in stages until later in 2025 (they will be used) at 20 airports.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – State-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) is committed to reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector by utilizing new and renewable energy (EBT) for airport operations.
President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin stated here on Monday that the attempt aligned with the global 2050 Net Zero Carbon Emissions Program initiated by the Airport Council International (ACI).
“As ACI stated, air transportation must reduce carbon (emissions). Thus, it can continue to connect the people, economy, ideas, culture, and business for future generations,” he affirmed.
Currently, his side is focused on implementing more environmentally friendly operations and services at airports under the management of AP II.
The AP II president director remarked that for the first EBT implementation stage, solar power plants (PLTS) had been utilized at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten Province, Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra Province, and Banyuwangi Airport in East Java Province.

“The construction of PLTS is being conducted in stages until later in 2025 (they will be used) at 20 airports. The PLTS will be installed with a total capacity of 26.34 MWp (Megawatt peak),” he noted.
Currently, the establishment of 5,100-square-meter rooftop solar panels, with a capacity of 761 kilowatts peak (kWp) at Kualanamu Airport has been completed, he stated. The facility will be used to support operations of the cargo terminal and administration building.
Some 600 square-meter rooftop solar panels, with a capacity of 35.1 kWp, have also been fully installed at Banyuwangi Airport to support operations at the Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting building.
Meanwhile, the work to construct PLTS at Terminal 2 of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport is 90-percent complete.

Awaluddin also noted that at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, currently, a PLTS, with a capacity of 241 kWp, had been operated at the Airport Operation Control Center (AOCC).
Furthermore, he said that his side continues to prepare three important aspects to save energy and achieve the global net carbon emissions targets.
The aspects encompass quality human resources with EBT-based electrical engineering competencies, standard procedures in the EBT operation, and adequate technology platforms for EBT operation.
In addition to building PLTS at airports, AP II applies technology to save electricity to support the implementation of the green airport concept.
“AP II has built a system called MANTRI (Monitoring System of Airport and Non-Airport Threshold Electrical Infrastructure) to control and monitor energy use throughout AP II’s environment in real time,” the AP II president director added.
