Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) – The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Office in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) announced the reopening of the Senaru hiking trail to Mount Rinjani after being temporarily closed due to forest fires.
The Head of the Administration Sub-Division of the TNGR Office, Astekita Ardiarsito, in Mataram on Saturday informed that after undergoing a process of extinguishing the forest fires and conducting an evaluation and assessment with stakeholders, the Senaru hiking trail in Mount Rinjani National Park has been declared open for reopening.
“The Senaru hiking trail will reopen starting October 3, 2026,” he confirmed.
According to Ardiarsito, the reopening will take place once the fires have been extinguished and the hiking facilities and infrastructure have been checked to ensure visitor safety and security.
“Tourists planning to hike can register online through the eRinjani app,” he continued.
With the reopening of the Senaru trail, five hiking trails within Mount Rinjani National Park are back to normal operations, Sembalun, Senaru, Tibanuh, Tetebatu, and Aik Berik.
“Currently, five hiking trails are open,” he said.
Previously, forest fires on the Senaru and Torean hiking trails resulted in surface fires fueled by mountain pine forests, undergrowth, bushes, grass, mountain savanna, dry leaves, and other understory vegetation.
“Based on preliminary monitoring as of September 29, 2026, the affected area reached 1,098.75 hectares, and there were no new or expanding hotspots,” Ardiarsito stated.
He continued that the figure was still a preliminary estimate and would be updated based on field monitoring, drone documentation, and verification of area boundaries.
He said fire conditions in the area were monitored by drone from a distance of 350 meters. The remaining hotspots were found on isolated trees that had previously burned and were no longer spreading.
“The team remains on alert for possible reignite, with surveillance strengthened through patrols and inspections of belongings,” he added.
The forest fire at Setampol Hill, Torean, Mount Rinjani, Lombok, broke out on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
