Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – Denpasar police are investigating the death of a British national after he was allegedly assaulted at an entertainment venue in Legian, Bali, with authorities yet to determine the cause.
Denpasar Police Chief Senior Commissioner Leonardo David Simatupang said Friday investigators were gathering evidence and awaiting forensic results before determining criminal liability.
“We will fully establish the sequence of events, including each party’s role and the cause of death,” Simatupang said, adding that the investigation would follow the law.
The alleged assault occurred around 2 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2026, at an entertainment venue in Legian, Badung District, Bali.
Simatupang said the victim returned to his hotel after the alleged assault.
The victim received medical treatment at Murni Teguh Hospital on Aug. 8 and was transferred to BIMC Hospital the following day for further treatment.
The victim was pronounced dead on Thursday, Aug. 20, after undergoing medical treatment.
The victim’s child reported the alleged assault to the Kuta Police Department on the same day.
Simatupang said investigators were focusing on determining the cause of death and whether the victim’s medical condition was linked to the alleged Aug. 5 assault.
Investigators will coordinate with forensic doctors and relevant parties to obtain medical information, while police plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Police have questioned several witnesses, including family members, security officers, venue workers and others who may know about the incident, Simatupang said.
Investigators are also examining surveillance footage to reconstruct the incident and determine the roles of people suspected of involvement, he said.
An initial investigation indicated that several foreign nationals allegedly assaulted the victim together, police said.
Four Australian nationals, identified by the initials RGG, PAM, JRM and TRZ, are suspected of involvement in the incident.
Immigration records show the four left Indonesia for Australia on Aug. 6, 2026, through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Investigators are examining the four Australians’ whereabouts, roles, relationships and activities before and after the alleged assault.
