Balikpapan, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) – Balikpapan immigration authorities deported nine foreigners from January through October for violating Indonesian immigration rules, including misusing residence permits, an official said.

“From January 2026 through today, we have deported nine people for residence permit violations,” said Donny Purwokohadi Candradewa, intelligence and immigration enforcement chief at Balikpapan Immigration Office here Wednesday.

Violations included using visas or residence permits for activities that did not match the purposes declared by the foreigners while they were in Indonesia.

Authorities also found foreigners who had overstayed their permits without extending them, he said.

The enforcement came amid high foreigner mobility in the area covered by the Balikpapan immigration office.

As of October 2026, the office recorded 997 foreigners in its jurisdiction holding various types of residence permits.

They included permanent stay permit holders, limited stay permit holders and visit stay permit holders.

Most limited stay permit holders worked for companies, while visit permit holders included people conducting business, attending company meetings and discussing investment plans.

Donny said authorities monitored foreigners’ presence and activities through immigration document checks and direct inspections in the field.

The inspections aimed to ensure foreigners’ activities matched the purposes of their approved residence permits.

Amid staffing constraints, the Balikpapan immigration office also urged residents to report information about foreigners suspected of violating immigration regulations.
