Bandung explores cooperation with Ecuador’s Cuenca in various fields

Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) – The Bandung city government explored cooperation with Cuenca, Ecuador, in various potential areas, from culture, creative economy, and historic building preservation to education and sports.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan welcomed the exploration and said ties between cities can be developed through exchanging experiences and collaboration suited to each region’s potential.

“This cooperation needs to be directed at concrete and feasible areas, so it benefits both sides,” Farhan said here on Thursday.

Farhan explained that in culture and the creative economy, Ecuador offers several activities, including exhibitions of chocolate, coffee, handicrafts, and textiles, as well as screenings of films and performances of traditional Ecuadorian art and music.

He also opened opportunities for collaboration with artisan chocolate businesses in Bandung through product introductions, experience exchange, and promotion.

“Bandung has potential in music, fine arts, film, and various cultural activities that can be developed together,” he said.

Besides culture, historic building preservation is another area with potential for development through knowledge exchange.

Farhan explained that the Bandung mayor’s official residence has a long history, built in 1875, while Cuenca’s experience in preserving historic areas can serve as a reference for Bandung to strengthen the protection and management of heritage buildings.

“Bandung City can learn from Cuenca’s experience in preserving historic areas, while also exchanging knowledge on managing and protecting heritage buildings,” he said.

To follow up on these opportunities, the city government would explore the involvement of cultural centers, performance venues, theaters, arts communities, and related institutions in Ecuador through video conferences to identify forms of collaboration that can be carried out.
