Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) – Banjarmasin Customs in South Kalimantan Province has taken action against an Indian national identified as MR after he was caught carrying 1,126.97 grams of gold without a customs declaration.
Airport security officers at Syamsudin Noor International Airport detained MR on September 29 as he prepared to fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Banjarmasin Customs Chief Tonny Riduan P. Simorangkir said.
The gold was valued at more than Rp2.8 billion (about US$156,000), Tonny said in a statement quoted here Thursday.
The state revenue loss averted included not only the gold’s value but also the export duty that should have been paid on the shipment, he said.
The export duty was estimated at Rp360.366 million (about US$20,100), based on the applicable regulations.
Tonny said rules governing goods carried by passengers include Finance Ministry Regulation No. 203/PMK.04/2017.
Since December 23, 2023, Finance Ministry Regulation No. 80/2023 has set export duties on certain types of gold exports.
The public is urged to declare gold carried abroad to Customs, check applicable export-duty obligations, and comply with restrictions and prohibitions.
“This enforcement action underscores the importance of coordination among agencies in supporting customs and excise oversight,” he added.
