Banten sets health check, TB detection example after surpassing target

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Health has highlighted Banten Province, particularly Tangerang District, for exceeding national targets in the Free Health Check (CKG) program and tuberculosis (TB) case detection, making it a national pilot region.

According to ministry data as of August 19, 2026, CKG coverage in Banten had reached 5,934,010 people, or 100.60 percent of the target. The figure placed Banten among the top three provinces with the highest CKG coverage in Indonesia.

“Furthermore, TB case detection in this region last year reached 112 percent of the estimated caseload, with a treatment success rate of 91 percent,” Deputy Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus said on Sunday.

He attributed the achievement to an integrated service strategy and cross-sector collaboration.

One key factor behind the program’s effectiveness is the use of portable X-ray equipment during CKG screenings, which helps accelerate the detection of lung disorders such as tuberculosis while also allowing screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including hypertension and diabetes mellitus, Octavianus said.

“People with a history of hypertension and diabetes can be immediately treated and given medication, then continue their treatment at community health centers. If further treatment is needed, patients will be referred to hospitals,” he added.

As part of sustained support for the program, the Health Ministry has allocated 16 X-ray units through the 2026 State Budget for eight districts and cities in Banten that meet the required criteria.

In the same statement, Banten Governor Andra Soni said the provincial and district/city governments would continue working together to ensure the success of the CKG program and improve public health.

“Thank God, Banten Province has surpassed its target. However, we have set a higher goal, we want more than half of Banten’s residents to take part in the Free Health Check. Tangerang District has also exceeded 46 percent, with nearly 6 million Banten residents having undergone health checks,” the governor said.

Meanwhile, Tangerang District Head Moch. Maesyal Rasyid said his administration was ready to complete the remaining target through a proactive approach.

The CKG program in Tangerang is targeting 1.6 million participants and had reached 1.52 million. The remaining approximately 100,000 residents are expected to be covered in September through direct outreach to toddlers, older people, and pregnant women at integrated health posts (Posyandu).

Nationally, the CKG program is targeting 130 million participants in 2026. As of the latest data, approximately 82 million people had undergone the health checks.
