Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) evacuated three people trapped under building debris after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday, killing one and injuring two.
“All three victims have been evacuated; one died and two were injured,” Basarnas Deputy Operations Director Edy Prakoso said here in Jakarta.
A joint SAR team conducted the evacuation at Lauren Say Port in Sikka District, where a building collapsed after the earthquake struck offshore near Mbay, Nagekeo District.
“When the earthquake struck, a building at Lauren Say Port in Sikka collapsed and struck residents,” Prakoso said.

Maumere Search and Rescue Office identified the dead victim as Meliana Nenong, 54, a woman. All three victims were taken to T.C. Hillers Regional Hospital in Maumere for medical treatment and mortuary services.
“All three victims were successfully evacuated; one died and two were injured,” he said.
The joint rescue teams, including Maumere SAR personnel, were deployed to the hardest-hit areas of Nagekeo and other affected locations to expand searches and evacuations.
Basarnas was coordinating closely with local disaster agencies, the military, and police to compile casualty data and ensure emergency operations proceeded swiftly, Prakoso said.
