BGN bolsters synergy with local governments for MBG oversight

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is strengthening coordination with local governments to oversee the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program and ensure its optimal rollout.

BGN Head Sudaryono noted that closer coordination with local authorities is crucial to the program’s success, as regional governments play a direct role in supporting various aspects of its execution on the ground.

“We deeply appreciate the local leaders who have consistently supported the MBG program,” he said during a meeting with the Home Affairs Minister and regional leaders in Jakarta on Thursday.

Sudaryono also reaffirmed his agency’s readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders—including regional leaders, the public, and parents—to ensure the smooth implementation of the MBG program and jointly address any issues found on the ground.

Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian urged local governments to strengthen their collaboration with BGN, noting that regional involvement is vital across several aspects of the program.

“In short, BGN is seeking collaboration with all local governments. Naturally, the Ministry of Home Affairs fully supports facilitating this communication, and local governments are expected to play an active role in the MBG program,” Tito remarked.

He also expressed hope that relevant local government agencies will step up in their respective roles to support the program’s execution, including overseeing the hygiene aspects at Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) or MBG kitchens.

Targeting millions of beneficiaries nationwide, the MBG program was launched in early 2025 as a key program of the Prabowo Subianto administration to improve the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and school-age children.
