Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) – The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has ensured that all beneficiaries of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Jayapura District, Papua, receive optimal medical care.
Deputy Head of BGN Trenggono said in a statement here on Friday that a thorough evaluation is continuously being carried out to prevent similar incidents from happening again and to improve the program’s implementation, ensuring safe benefits for all recipients.
“Today, together with the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, I directly reviewed the handling of an alleged food safety incident in the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program in Depapre,” he said.
He said the review was aimed at ensuring all affected beneficiaries receive optimal health care while also strengthening evaluation measures for the program.
His side also reviewed a number of health facilities treating patients, namely Depapre Community Health Center, the Depapre Office Hall, and Yowari Regional General Hospital.
“The review was carried out to ensure all patients receive adequate medical care, as well as to provide moral support to the beneficiaries and their families,” he said.
He explained that his side, together with the Papua provincial government, had discussed measures to handle the incident, strengthen cross-sector coordination, and accelerate treatment for the affected beneficiaries.
“We then visited the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchen of the Kasih Iman Samuel Papua Foundation to directly evaluate the food preparation process and the implementation of operational standards, and suspended its operations temporarily,” he said.
He added that after reviewing the SPPG, many shortcomings were found, so his side had issued a reprimand.
“We also reprimanded the regional coordinator, asking why this kind of oversight lapse still occurs. For now, we are suspending operations while we check and investigate where the fault lies, whether in the SOP or the raw materials,” he said.
According to data as of 3:45 p.m. local time, 219 beneficiaries had received medical treatment at various health facilities.
Of that number, eight patients have been allowed to go home as their condition improved, while three patients were referred from Yowari Regional General Hospital to the Ministry of Health Hospital for further treatment.
