Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed that joint emergency response teams have successfully contained and extinguished several land and forest fires that broke out simultaneously across four provinces.
The Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said in Jakarta on Friday that the fires hit North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, and Southwest Papua between Wednesday (August 5) and Thursday (August 6).
“Joint teams in the regions responded quickly to contain and extinguish the fires on the same day,” he said.
Abdul explained that the fires in Bolaang Mongondow District, North Sulawesi, scorched 3.5 hectares of land across Bakan Village in Lolayan Subdistrict and Lolak II Village in Lolak Subdistrict.
Meanwhile, in Tana Toraja District, South Sulawesi, land and forest fires swept through roughly 55 hectares across Mengkendek, North Makale, and Makale subdistricts.
In Southeast Sulawesi, fires burned around 6 hectares of land in Poni-Poniki Village, Tirawuta Subdistrict, East Kolaka District.
In Sorong City, Southwest Papua, a 10-hectare land fire struck Malasilen Village in North Sorong Subdistrict and Rufei Village in West Sorong Subdistrict. The fire also swept through a landfill in Melasilen Village, affecting an area of five hectares.
The BNPB Operations Control Directorate confirmed that joint teams successfully extinguished all fires in Sorong, including those in residential areas and the landfill.
However, Abdul said that personnel from the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and relevant local agencies remain deployed on the ground to monitor high-risk locations and prevent new fires from breaking out.
