Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has about Rp950 billion (US$53.9 million) in ready-to-use disaster funds, while the government awaits a request for additional financing.
Asked about disaster funding at a media briefing on Tuesday, he said he had not released additional funds because BNPB had yet to submit a request.
Sadewa said BNPB still had about Rp900 billion (US$51 million) in ready-to-use funds, according to the Finance Ministry’s director general.
Finance Ministry Secretary-General Robert Marbun separately said BNPB has a Rp5.7 trillion (US$323.3 million) budget ceiling, including Rp950 billion for disaster response.
BNPB has absorbed Rp2.6 trillion (US$147.5 million) so far, according to Finance Ministry reports, although spending could rise as field work and administrative reporting continue.
Sadewa said disaster-related funding is treated differently, with additional allocations prioritized when needed because they involve public safety and survival during emergencies.
The government will increase funding if necessary, Sadewa said, but BNPB had not yet submitted a request for additional financing.
He said the government would continue monitoring regional funding needs and provide additional allocations when required to support disaster response.
Sadewa also said there was no need for concern over disaster financing because the government would ensure adequate funds were available.
BNPB proposed an additional Rp5.67 trillion (US$321.6 million) in ready-to-use funds to accelerate disaster response and physical rehabilitation nationwide in 2026.
BNPB Chief Secretary Rustian said the proposal was being processed by the Finance Ministry and would seek about Rp5.67 trillion in additional funding.
BNPB previously received an initial 2026 ready-to-use allocation of Rp4.62 trillion (US$262 million) for emergency response operations.
