Brimob uses water cannon to clear Mount Sinabung’s ash

Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) – Personnel from the North Sumatra Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) used an Armoured Water Cannon vehicle to clear volcanic ash from roads after Mount Sinabung erupted in Karo District.

North Sumatra Mobile Brigade Commander Senior Commissioner M. Rendra Salipu said personnel assigned to the Tanah Karo police had sprayed volcanic ash along Lau Kawar Road, Simpang Empat.

“The effort aims to reduce dust and ash that could disrupt activities and the comfort of people traveling through the area,” Rendra said in Medan, the capital of North Sumatra Province, on Wednesday.

He said spraying the road was one measure to create a more comfortable environment and minimize the impact of volcanic ash on residents’ activities.

“Our presence among the community reflects our service and concern,” he said.

The unit is committed to providing assistance and taking measures to help residents mitigate the impacts caused by the eruption, he said.

Through its humanitarian mission, the North Sumatra Mobile Brigade continues coordinating efforts to manage the eruption’s impacts and ensure residents do not face the situation alone.

North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution earlier ordered an accelerated evacuation of residents in danger zones after Mount Sinabung’s alert status was raised from Level II to Level III.

Bobby said saving lives must remain the top priority and urged local authorities and regional leadership forums to ensure residents’ needs were met.

The governor also stressed that Karo residents, particularly those in the red zone, must be evacuated thoroughly and firmly to prepare for increased volcanic activity at Mount Sinabung.
