Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has assured that data security in the Lampung-1 satellite project will remain under Indonesia’s authority control.
The assurance was given by BRIN Head Arif Satria following concerns over possible leakage of sensitive data.
“The Lampung provincial government and various institutions in Indonesia have coordinated with BRIN. BRIN is one of the institutions involved in the process, and we have discussed data security and other related matters,” he said at the Presidential Palace here on Thursday.
He stressed that all data management and storage related to Indonesia’s national interests would remain under BRIN’s authority.
“What is certain is that all matters related to data storage and other aspects concerning Indonesia will remain under BRIN’s authority. God willing, it will be safe,” he said.
In addition to assuring the security of the satellite project, he revealed that BRIN has been preparing to launch its domestically developed satellite, BRIN NEO-1, which is scheduled to enter orbit in early 2027.
“More importantly, we will also launch BRIN’s own satellite. BRIN NEO-1 was fully developed by BRIN, with its manufacturing facility located in Bogor. We plan to launch it in early 2027,” he said.
China’s commercial space company STAR.VISION successfully launched the Oriental Smart Eye (OSE) Hyperspectral-01 and Hyperspectral-02 satellites into their designated orbit on Wednesday (August 5) morning using the Jielong-3 Y12 carrier rocket from waters off Haiyang City, Shandong Province, eastern China.
The OSE Hyperspectral-01 satellite was jointly developed by STAR.VISION, Wuhan University, and several related institutions, including the Lampung Provincial Administration.
The satellite, named “Lampung-1” by the Indonesian side, carries a joint Indonesia-China mission in remote sensing applications, artificial intelligence (AI), and space capacity development.
