Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is set to present Adsorbed Natural Gas (ANG) technology as a potential alternative to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday.
BRIN Head Arif Satria said the technology is among the agency’s flagship innovations, citing its strong potential to strengthen national energy security.
“There are several promising products that have yet to enter the market but have strong prospects. One of them is adsorbed natural gas, which could become a key driver of Indonesia’s energy transition. We will present all of these to the president,” Satria said upon arriving at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
Satria said ANG technology offers a distinct advantage since it operates at pressures below 30 bar, making it a viable alternative to LPG.
“We offer solutions to conserve gas and save foreign exchange. Since ANG can be utilized at pressures under 30 bar, it has the potential to replace LPG. It is one of our key innovations as solutions for the energy sector,” he said.
According to BRIN, ANG is a natural gas storage technology that uses porous adsorbent materials, such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), allowing gas to be stored at significantly lower pressures than compressed natural gas (CNG).
This offers advantages in safety, storage efficiency, and potential system cost reductions, although ANG technology still requires further development to achieve widespread commercial viability.
In addition to ANG technology, BRIN is presenting between 150 and 200 innovative products from 12 research clusters. These span fields such as food, health, transportation, housing, space, aviation, nuclear energy, and rare earth metals, as well as innovations supporting the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program and fishing village development.
Satria said President Subianto is scheduled to tour the exhibition to view the innovations firsthand and speak with researchers.
He added that presidential support for research and technological development has motivated BRIN researchers to continue producing innovations that benefit the public.
