Jayapura (ANTARA) – An armed criminal separatist group attacked security personnel securing services at Okbibab Protestant Church in Pegunungan Bintang District , Papua Province on Sunday morning.

Chief of the Pegunungan Bintang District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito confirmed the attack which occurred at 10:45 a,m, local time.

The armed criminal group attacked the security personnel from two directions and injured one military officer and a police officer.

The two security personnel who were injured are Chief Brigadier Vanny Putra Perdana who is a member of Damai Cartenz Task Force and non-commissioned officer Willy John who is a member of the task force of the battalion infantry 431/SSP of the district military command.

The two victims were flown to Jayapura aboard a National Police helicopter for further treatment.

The perpetrators of attack are still unknown.

“We prioritize the evacuation of the two victims until paramedics handle them,” he said.
