Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture supports the development of the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) Election Journey Museum as an educational space documenting the history of national elections and democracy.
Culture Minister Fadli Zon said in a statement here on Wednesday that developing the museum was necessary since the nation’s journey is recorded through its electoral process.
The Ministry will provide support and expert assistance for exhibition design and the museum’s storyline development.
“We can collaborate in terms of expertise, for example from the National Museum of Indonesia, because this museum needs to be attractive in terms of its exhibition design, and later there will also be digital elements,” Fadli Zon said.
The Election Journey Museum, located at the KPU’s East Jakarta office, was officially opened on August 3, 2026, presenting various election artifacts dating back to 1955.
During a meeting with KPU Chairman Muhammad Afifuddin at the Ministry of Culture office, Fadli Zon noted that Indonesia’s elections, since 1955, have gone through a fairly long journey, and no museum dedicated to elections had existed until now.
He also directed that exhibition materials be developed through an election timeline from 1955 to the present, narratives on election participants and results, visual artifacts such as election symbols and pamphlets, and a collection of books on the 1955 election results.
The Election Journey Museum can become a space that presents the full history of elections through objects, visuals, information, and visitor experience, he said.
“The ministry encourages the development of immersive and interactive experiences, including election simulations, temporary exhibitions, and visitor participation spaces to attract young generations, including Gen Z,” the Minister said.
