Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 9th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the First Session Period of the 2026–2027 Parliamentary Year approved the One Data Indonesia Bill to be enacted into law on Tuesday.
Before the bill was approved, Sturman Panjaitan, Deputy Chairman of the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg), said the drafting of the One Data Indonesia Bill was grounded in the constitutional mandate to protect all Indonesian citizens.
According to him, data accuracy is essential to ensuring justice. Baleg believes that high-quality data forms the foundation for sound, transparent, and accountable public policies.
“When data is flawed, it is not merely the figures that are incorrect; justice itself is compromised. Misdirected aid, overlapping programs, and inefficient budget utilization often stem from a single source: poorly managed data,” he said.
Regarding the drafting process, Panjaitan explained that Baleg had held public hearings with experts, associations, and civil society groups to ensure meaningful public participation.
Based on the deliberations, the One Data Indonesia (SDI) Bill comprises 20 chapters and 141 articles. The Level I decision on the bill was reached on Monday (October 5) during a meeting between Baleg and government representatives.
One of the strategic elements of the bill is the regulation of National Basic Data (DDN).
He explained that DDN is controlled by the state and serves as the primary reference for development planning, fiscal and budgetary policies, social assistance distribution, and other national strategic needs.
Furthermore, the SDI Bill provides for public participation through the submission of input, reporting of suspected data misuse, participatory monitoring, and voluntary data contributions.
“In conducting these deliberations, we firmly uphold the principle that the law exists for the people, not the people for the law. The same applies to data, data is for the people, not the people for the data,” Panjaitan said.
