We have prepared everything … to support the G20.
Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) – State-run electricity provider PT PLN’s Main Transmission Unit for Eastern Java and Bali areas (UIT JBM) is working on ensuring the reliability of the power supply for the 2022 G20 Summit.
One of the keys to the success of the G20 Summit is a reliable electricity system, director for system transmission and planning at PT PLN’s UIT JBM, E. Haryadi, said in a statement issued on Monday.
“We will provide the main electricity supply from the system in Bali province. Furthermore, we will also standby the (backup) supply from the system in East Java province if the supply in Bali province is insufficient,” he informed.
PT PLN’s UIT JBM is preparing the Paiton steam-fired power plant (PLTU) to back up the electricity supply to Bali province, he added.
“One of them (the prepared backup supply) is by using the high-voltage electricity system (500 kilovolts and 150 kilovolts) from Paiton (a sub-district in East Java province) to Bali province, which is the host of the event,” the director said.
In addition, he informed that the company will set up nine monitoring posts in the two provinces one week before the implementation of the summit, which is scheduled to take place from November 15-16, 2022.

In addition, his party directly reviewed the readiness of the electricity transmission system on Sunday (October 30).
“We have been improving the (electricity) grid and GI (main substation) since the end of last year (2021),” he added.
A total of 312 personnel will be deployed by PLN UIT JBM to ensure the reliability of the electricity system. The state-run enterprise is also ensuring the readiness of the required equipment to support the success of the G20 Summit.
“We have prepared everything–starting from personnel, equipment, SOPs (standard operating procedures), infrastructure, and system to support the G20,” general manager of PT PLN’s UIT JBM, Didik F. Dakhlan, said.
A few weeks ago, his party conducted an emergency response simulation at one of the vital electricity infrastructures in Ketapang village, Banyuwangi district, East Java province, he informed.
He said that the company periodically reviews locations that are prone to electrical disruptions and conducts mitigation attempts as a precaution.
It is also coordinating with all stakeholders to maintain a reliable electricity system to support the smooth implementation of the G20 Summit.
