Early warnings only have meaning if they are followed by early action.
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno said the Emergency Disaster Reduction and Rescue (EDRR) Expo 2026 would serve as a major driver for Indonesia to become a global center of excellence for disaster-management technology.
Speaking at the opening of the EDRR Expo in Jakarta on Wednesday, Pratikno said Indonesia’s goal was to achieve technological self-reliance in disaster management rather than merely becoming a testing ground or market for foreign products.
“Our target is clear: Indonesia should become a global center of excellence for disaster-management technology, not merely a disaster laboratory, let alone a disaster supermarket. Indonesia wants to achieve technological self-reliance and continue to promote the development of the domestic disaster-management industry,” he said.
Pratikno invited international partners and investors to establish cooperation in technology transfer, joint research and direct investment, while translating technological advances into concrete action by strengthening early-warning response measures.
He highlighted that with nearly 5,000 disasters occurring in Indonesia each year, the country needed to ensure that technological information was translated into effective action on the ground.
“Early warnings only have meaning if they are followed by early action. Advanced technology must not stop in control rooms; information must be turned into action that saves people’s lives,” Pratikno said.
EDRR Indonesia 2026, held from August 12 to 14, 2026, at Jakarta International Expo, features more than 80 domestic and international companies showcasing disaster-mitigation technologies, emergency equipment and modern safety systems.
The business-to-business (B2B) exhibition, supported by various ministries, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and international organizations, also features 10 strategic programs, including safety conferences, emergency simulations and business-matching sessions.
