Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry (Kemendikbudristek) collaborates with the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/BUMN) Ministry to launch the Research and Innovation Cooperation (KeRIs) BUMN Program.
“KeRIs BUMN aims to create a research and innovation ecosystem through collaboration with SOEs and universities,” the acting director general of Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Nizam, stated here on Wednesday.
Nizam remarked that the program is expected to utilize the research and innovation results, conduct expertise exchange to create excellent human resources, as well as synergize the education, business, and industrial sectors.
The program will be able to help improve the development of research in Indonesia, he remarked.

The acting director general stated that in the last two years, the largest budget of the Kemendikbudristek had been allocated for research matching funding to support the use of universities’ research and innovation results by industrial players.
“It is hoped that SOEs would be able to establish targets to realize technological independence and technological sovereignty,” he remarked.
He noted that the collaboration was included in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) among plantation SOEs and state-run train and railway manufacturer PT INKA with universities.

“I hope SOEs (Ministry) has targets that can encourage our SOEs to slowly but surely realize technological independence and sovereignty. Hopefully, KeRIs and Kedaireka (Business Cooperation and Creative Creation) programs would become new forces for the nation’s economic progress in the future,” Nizam noted.
Deputy for Human Resources, Technology, and Information at the SOEs Ministry Tedi Bharata stated that the launch of KeRIs aligned with the aspirations of SOEs Minister Erick Thohir to improve the state-run companies and make universities as their partners in collaboration.
He said that through the cooperation, enterprises could channel greater focus to develop their business, as product research and innovation development could be conducted by the universities having more competences in that aspect.
In addition, the program will open more opportunities for students to do internships at SOEs in the future, he stated.
