Jakarta (ANTARA) – At least 815 West Jakarta residents were evacuated after their houses were inundated by floodwaters reaching a height of up to one meter, the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has said.

“Sixty-four neighborhood units are still flooded,” Head of data and information center of Jakarta BPBD M Insyaf informed here on Wednesday.

Until 9 a.m. local time on Wednesday, 64 neighborhood units in West Jakarta were reported to be water-logged, he said. Thus, 0.21 percent of Jakarta’s total 30,470 units were flooded, he added.

Among the 815 evacuees, 234 household heads were impacted by the flood in Tegal Alur village, according to BPBD.

The evacuees fled to 11 locations such as Tegal Alur Rented Flats, Al-Hidayah Mushala, a food stall, Alur Anggrek child-friendly integrated public space (RPTRA), and Darurohman Mosque, it said.

The water level reached 40-100 cm in 31 neighborhoods, Insyaf informed. “The causes of the flood were heavy rainfall, coastal flooding, and the overflow of Semongol River,” he said.

In Kamal village, the water level reached 40-50 cm, affecting 12 neighborhood units, he added.

Meanwhile, in West Cengkareng village, the water level reached 50 cm due to heavy rainfall and affected 13 neighborhood units, he said.
