Forestry minister hails drone system for SAR, fire management

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni has praised the EagleEye Tactical SAR System developed by South Sulawesi’s Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) to support search and rescue and forest and land fire management.

In a statement on Sunday, Antoni congratulated the ministry team for winning first place in the 2026 TNI Commander’s Cup Open Tournament’s Military Drone Development, SAR and Disaster Relief category.

He said the innovation was developed as a Drone Command Center platform for real-time tactical monitoring, combining drone-based remote sensing with artificial intelligence (AI) analysis.

“This innovation demonstrates that drone technology and artificial intelligence can be developed to support field needs, both in search and rescue, forest and land fire management, and wildlife protection,” he said.

He expressed hope that the innovation would be further developed and adopted more widely, particularly to manage forest and land fires and support wildlife rescue across Indonesia.

The victory also marked the Ministry of Forestry’s achievement in developing technological innovations to support search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, forest and land fire management, and wildlife protection using drones and AI.

EagleEye can also support forest and land fire management by monitoring hotspots and smoke density, identifying firefighters and using AI to identify wildlife.

The EagleEye Tactical SAR System integrates two AI processing methods: a Cloud AI Server for high-precision analysis and a Local Edge AI Agent for faster analysis in areas with severe disasters or limited connectivity.

The system also features a Python-based nighttime image-processing module, post-flight video analysis and low-latency tactical alert distribution.

The system is designed to give SAR teams flexibility, allowing them to use Cloud AI when internet access is available or switch to the Local AI Agent in isolated areas or connectivity blind spots.
