Makassar (ANTARA) – A Garuda Indonesia passenger jet carrying 156 people landed safely in South Sulawesi on Thursday after suffering a main landing gear tire failure mid-flight, airport authorities said.
Flight GA 604, operated by a Boeing 737-800 flying from Jakarta to Makassar, touched down on runway 03 at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 9:13 a.m. local time following a standard go-around maneuver.
Air traffic controllers alerted airport operators to the main gear tire blowout around 7:00 a.m. local time, prompting emergency and rescue services to deploy along the runway ahead of the landing.
“Despite the technical malfunction, the plane landed safely after conducting a go-around according to safety procedures,” said Lukman Mardian, acting general manager of Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport.
Ground crews evacuated all 156 passengers and flight crew without injury, completing the disembarkation by 9:53 a.m.
The airport temporarily suspended runway operations from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to clear the aircraft and assess the landing strip.
Regular flight schedules resumed shortly after the runway reopened.
