Garut expands English training as foreign tourist visits rise

Garut (ANTARA) – The Garut District Tourism and Culture Office in West Java will provide English language training for tourism workers to help them communicate with and serve foreign tourists visiting the region.

“This is indeed our goal to prepare for foreign tourists. Tourism workers need to be able to communicate,” Head of the Garut District Tourism and Culture Office Beni Yoga Gunasantika said in Garut on Saturday.

He added that the foreign language training program, particularly in English, was part of the office’s strategy to provide better services to foreign tourists.

According to Gunasantika, the office had provided English-language training at two tourist destinations frequently visited by foreign tourists, including Kampung Pasir cultural tourism site in Samarang Subdistrict and Situ Cangkuang in Leles Subdistrict.

“We have only provided training at several locations. One of them was Kampung Pasir, and we also trained female traders at Situ Cangkuang,” he said.

He said the English language training program was aimed at developing tourism workers with strong foreign language skills, as several tourist destinations in Garut now receive foreign visitors every month.

The training involves qualified language instructors who provide instruction and guidance for three months, targeting tourism workers such as vendors, tour guides, and homestay operators.

“Recently, we provided three months of English training to people whose homes are commonly used as homestays,” he said.

He added that English training would be expanded to other tourist destinations in the future so that tourism workers across the regency would be able to communicate with foreign tourists.

The Garut District Tourism and Culture Office recorded 1,120 foreign tourist visits to several destinations in Garut in 2025, up from 678 visits in 2024.
