Gibraninspects school renovation in Aceh

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has assured that the renovation of school infrastructure damaged by floods in Aceh is progressing, enabling students to resume learning in safe and adequate facilities.

According to a statement from the Vice Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta on Friday, Gibran inspected the renovation of State Elementary School (SDN) 7 Jangka in Bireuen District, Aceh, on Thursday. The school suffered damage to its buildings and learning facilities during the mud floods that struck the area in November 2025.

“The school’s needs must be fulfilled. How can the students learn without the necessary facilities? Please coordinate with the head of the local education office,” the vice president told Acting Secretary of the Vice President Al Muktabar, who accompanied him during the visit.

During the inspection, Gibran reviewed the progress of the renovation work and listened to feedback from teachers and other stakeholders. He said the recovery process must address the school’s actual needs so that teaching and learning activities can resume safely, comfortably, and effectively.

He also instructed SDN 7 Jangka principal Mariana to ensure that all learning materials and supporting facilities are fully provided.

“Ma’am, please make sure the books and other learning materials are supplied,” he said.

During the visit, Bireuen Education Office Head Muslim reported that the renovation had reached 86 percent completion and is scheduled to be finished in October.

Gibran expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the central and regional governments, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), teachers, and other stakeholders in accelerating the school’s recovery.

He said such collaboration is essential, while emphasizing that providing safe and adequate educational facilities remains the state’s responsibility.

Separately, Suhaiman, the fifth-grade homeroom teacher at SDN 7 Jangka, recalled that the school had been unable to operate after last year’s floods, which damaged classrooms as well as school equipment, including desks, chairs, and textbooks.

He said the renovation has significantly improved conditions, allowing students to return to a more conducive learning environment.

“We are very grateful for this renovation. We thank the vice president for providing assistance, especially for the school facilities and building renovation. Alhamdulillah, we are now able to use the school again. The entire community, especially local residents, is very happy because our students can finally study as they did before,” he said.
