Gorontalo engages communities, universities to preserve culture

Gorontalo (ANTARA) – The Gorontalo Province Cultural Preservation Office is engaging communities and universities in an effort to bring cultural preservation issues closer to the public through interactive dialogue.

Mochammad Andri WP, head of the office, stated in Gorontalo on Tuesday that involving communities and universities marks an initial step toward shifting the approach to cultural activities so they resonate more closely with the public.

“We are attempting to transform these activities by directly engaging various sectors to gain diverse perspectives and reach communities directly,” Andri said.

Andri explained that the initiative began with a collaborative discussion involving the Huntu Art District (Hartdisk) and Gorontalo State University (UNG).

The event, held in Bone Bolango District on August 15, focused on themes related to culture, indigenous communities, and Gorontalo’s cultural traditions.

He noted that such activities would be conducted regularly, involving various communities, organizations, artists, and members of the general public.

According to him, cultural preservation is a long-term endeavor requiring the participation of diverse stakeholders, including those not directly active in the cultural sector.

“We seek the participation of every stakeholder and entity, even those not directly linked to culture,” he said.

He stated that activities involving the public and communities could serve as a means of introducing cultural topics and discussing them in a more intimate and accessible manner.

Andri noted that culture has a broad scope, as daily community activities are invariably connected to culture.

“Culture is vast because participatory activities are always intertwined with culture,” he said.

He hopes that the involvement of communities, academics, indigenous groups, and various stakeholders will strengthen preservation efforts while ensuring that Gorontalo’s cultural traditions remain recognized and are passed down to future generations.
