Jakarta (ANTARA) – Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of Indonesia’s Communication and Digital Affairs Ministry is prioritising the expansion of internet access infrastructure to support public service delivery.
“BAKTI has provided internet access across more than 31,000 locations, with the majority in the education sector at 68 percent,” President Director of BAKTI, Fadhilah Mathar, said during “BAKTI Media Connect 2026” held in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She mentioned 5.89 per cent of internet access points have been established in the healthcare sector, while 19.94 per cent in government offices and 1.53 per cent in community centres, such as markets, places of worship, defence and security posts, tourist attractions, business services, and public transport
Mathar noted BAKTI’s connectivity development framework is built on four core pillars.
“The first is community sustainability, as this drives adoption and inclusion. The second is service quality. The third is driving the scalability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs); and the fourth, no less important, is industry sustainability,” she remarked.
To ensure the internet access reaches frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions, BAKTI operates integrated strategic infrastructure.

Since 2024, the 150-Gbps Republic of Indonesia Satellite (SATRIA-1) has provided internet access to public facilities, including schools, community health centers (puskesmas), local government offices, and military and police border posts.
As the largest multifunctional satellite in Asia, it serves as the primary telecommunications backbone for areas inaccessible by land.
In addition, there is the 12,148-kilometre Palapa Ring fibre-optic network, which serves 131 Network Operation Centres (NOCs) in 57 regencies and cities across western, central and eastern Indonesia.
Connectivity expansion efforts also include the BAKTI AKSI and BAKTI Sinyal programmes. Through BAKTI AKSI, free internet access has been provided at over 31,864 public service points across Indonesia.

Meanwhile, under the BAKTI Sinyal programme, the agency has built 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) and Universal Service Obligation (USO) towers across 6,747 locations in 3T regions, funded through the state budget and USO fund.
The infrastructure is paired with digital ecosystem empowerment programmes and village government-owned Enterprises (BUMDes) partnerships.
Through digital literacy training, tourism digitalisation, and strengthened joint BUMDes partnerships; BAKTI also aims to foster tech-driven economic self-reliance across villages.
“The infrastructure will greatly help the government moving forward in leveraging connectivity as a driver for public productivity,” Mathar said.
