Govt committed to expanding access to education

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Head of Indonesia’s Government Communications Agency (Bakom RI) Syahganda Nainggolan has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to education through infrastructure development.

“The government has worked hard, including through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, but these efforts have not been communicated effectively to the public,” Syahganda said in a statement here on Tuesday.

He said the public needed a comprehensive understanding of the government’s various efforts, ranging from improving the quality of learning and strengthening teachers’ roles to developing infrastructure that enables children to go to school more easily.

He said the success of education development depends not only on programs implemented in classrooms but also on the government’s ability to address barriers that prevent people from accessing education, particularly in remote areas.

He said one tangible example of the government’s commitment to equitable education was its efforts to expand access to learning in villages.

Education digitalization programs and efforts to strengthen teachers’ roles are part of this initiative, with the aim of extending education services to a wider segment of the population.

However, equitable access to education requires more than learning programs and teaching personnel.

Adequate infrastructure is also a fundamental necessity, particularly for children living in areas with challenging geographical conditions.

“For example, the construction of bridges connecting remote villages that were previously separated by rivers. With these bridges in place, residents, particularly children, can now get to school more easily,” he said.

Syahganda believes education infrastructure development requires collaboration across ministries. Support for educational facilities and infrastructure must go hand in hand with policies to improve learning quality so that communities can directly benefit from development efforts.

He said this approach demonstrated that education development was a shared responsibility.

Besides school accessibility, Syahganda highlighted the importance of ensuring teachers’ welfare.

He said government support through allowances and various forms of assistance for teachers was an important part of efforts to strengthen the education sector.

“The government’s attention to teachers’ welfare has been remarkable, through both allowances and various other forms of assistance. This support is provided to teachers who are registered as civil servants (ASN) as well as those who have not yet been registered as ASN,” Syahganda said.

He expressed confidence that quality education was one of the pathways for people to improve their living standards.
