Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Transmigration is deploying 1,476 young patriots to 53 transmigration areas across various regions to conduct research, assessments, and science- and technology-based mentoring.
Muhammad Qodari, Head of the Government Communication Agency (Bakom), in a video on Wednesday said the young patriots were recruited from 10 universities as part of an effort to accelerate the development of transmigration areas.
“The government, through the Ministry of Transmigration, has recruited and deployed 1,476 young patriots from the Patriot Expedition Team to 53 transmigration areas to carry out research, assessments, and science- and technology-based mentoring,” Qodari explained.
The programme is a continuation of the 2025 Patriot Expedition Team initiative, which previously deployed 2,000 highly qualified individuals to transmigration areas.
In 2026, the government assigns 1,476 individuals to 53 transmigration areas, ranging from Salor in South Papua, Selaut in Aceh, Lunang Silaut and Muara Takung Kamang Baru in West Sumatra, and Batu Betumpang in the Bangka Belitung Islands, to Barelang in the Riau Islands.

According to Qodari, the programme involves 10 universities, namely the University of Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), the University of Diponegoro (Undip), the University of Padjadjaran (Unpd), the University of Airlangga (Unair), the University of Brawijaya (UB), and the Univeristy of Hasanuddin (Unhas).
Qodari said the partner universities oversee administrative verification and participant selection, in addition to equipping participants with academic preparation before deployment. They also provide continuous support to the research sites during the assignment period.
The programme aims to transform transmigration areas into applied research laboratories that generate policy recommendations for the planning, construction, and development of these regions.

“The programme is expected to turn transmigration areas into applied research laboratories that produce concrete policy recommendations for the planning, construction, and development of the areas,” he outlined.
The government is placing special emphasis on the development of Papua by deploying approximately 1,200 participants, comprising about 80 percent of the total Patriot Expedition Team members.
Qodari explained the findings from the Patriot Expedition Team’s research will serve as the basis for policy recommendations for follow-up in a sustained manner to support the development of transmigration areas and improve community welfare.
He expressed optimism that partnerships among the government, academia, and the community would allow transmigration areas to emerge as competitive and sustainable economic hubs while improving local livelihoods.
