House speaker says 9,205 public submissions received, followed up

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) received 9,205 public submissions between Aug. 15, 2025, and Aug. 13, 2026, House Speaker Puan Maharani said, assuring citizens of appropriate follow-ups.

“The total number of submissions reaches 9,205, including 7,055 conveyed through letters, 2,011 through websites, and 139 through House organs,” she remarked at the DPR Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Speaking during a plenary session, Puan described the submissions as evidence of the legislature’s commitment to carrying out its oversight function during the 2025-2026 parliamentary year.

“All the aspirations have been forwarded to parliamentary bodies, which will follow them up through recommendations to the government,” the lawmaker added.

In addition to receiving and responding to submissions, she continued, the DPR established 42 work committees and held 736 sessions as part of its oversight duties during the period.

She emphasized that the oversight function had focused on issues of strategic importance that directly affected the public interest.

“The oversight function of the DPR is being directed at improving the government’s performance in addressing public affairs to make people’s lives easier and help them prosper,” Puan remarked.

She added that the legislature is also responsible for overseeing the government’s commitment to good governance and law enforcement.

Her statement formed part of a performance report delivered during a plenary session marking the DPR’s 81st anniversary, highlighting the assembly’s commitment to upholding popular sovereignty through impactful and responsive legislation and oversight.

Puan emphasized that the legislature recognized the importance of orienting its work toward tangible outcomes that benefit the public.

She said performance assessments should not focus solely on the number of laws passed, sessions held, or budget allocations approved, urging representatives to reflect on their ability to deliver tangible benefits to the public, improve living standards, and support development across sectors.

“The performance of the DPR as the people’s representative is not solely determined by how much it has worked on but by how meaningful its work for citizens is,” she stated.
