Jakarta (ANTARA) – House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani urged the government Friday to ensure the 2027 state budget prioritizes fair tax collection, prudent debt management, fiscal sustainability, and tangible public benefits across Indonesia’s regions.
Speaking at the parliamentary plenary opening in Jakarta, Puan warned against placing unfair financial liabilities on future generations while emphasizing four core pillars of legislative oversight: revenue fairness, spending quality, debt control, and regional transfers.
“The State Budget is not just about numbers and programs,” Puan declared.
“For the people, what is remembered is not the size of the numbers, but rather how much the budget can change people’s lives for the better.”
Addressing revenue collection, Puan emphasized that burden-sharing must remain equitable.
“First, state revenue must be collected fairly, without weakening public purchasing power and the sustainability of the business world,” she stated, while calling for targeted, results-oriented spending.
On fiscal management, Puan cautioned that deficit levels and national debt require strict prudence.
“Today’s policies must not leave an unfair burden on future generations,” she stressed.
Puan added that financial transfers to sub-national regions must directly strengthen local economies, public services, and balanced regional development across the archipelago.
“The measure of our success in preparing the State Budget is the extent to which policies, programs, and budgets can pave the way for people to live better lives,” she concluded.
Puan’s address preceded President Prabowo Subianto’s formal delivery of the 2027 Draft State Budget and Financial Note.
