Independence Day as push to boost workforce quality: Ministry

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Manpower Minister Yassierli said the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence serves as a moment to continue strengthening human resource quality and expanding job opportunities for the public.

Yassierli said in a statement here on Tuesday that Independence Day serves as a reminder to continue introducing policies that expand public access to employment and skills development.

“The spirit of independence gives us the energy to keep building Indonesia through a quality, competent, and competitive workforce. We will continue expanding skills development so people are increasingly ready to enter the workforce,” Yassierli said.

He said the ministry is carrying out these efforts through several programs, including the National Vocational Training Program, the National Internship Program, the Manpower Polytechnic, and the KarirHub platform.

He said these programs provide the public with opportunities to improve their skills, gain work experience, pursue vocational education, and access job information and opportunities that match labor market needs.

Strengthening human resources and expanding job opportunities also go hand in hand with efforts to create a safe, productive, inclusive, and fair labor environment, he added.

“For that reason, the Manpower Ministry continues to strengthen occupational safety and health (OSH), as well as industrial relations,” Yassierli said.

Yassierli also stressed that a competitive workforce is one of the keys to strengthening Indonesia’s industrialization and building economic self-reliance.

He said the downstreaming agenda, national industrial development, and food and energy security all require workers with the competence needed to create domestic added value.

“There is no downstreaming without people who can carry it out, no industrialization without competent workers, and no economic self-reliance without the strength of Indonesia’s workforce,” Yassierli said.
