Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono has called on the international community to prioritize peace efforts that deliver tangible results for Palestinians, warning of the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
“We are committed to upholding peace; however, the Palestinian people have yet to see real change,” Sugiono said in a statement released here on Tuesday (September 22).
“In the short term, they urgently need an influx of humanitarian aid, a ceasefire, and an end to the killings in Gaza,” he added.
He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to engaging with global partners to advance peace initiatives, emphasizing that the active participation of the Palestinian people is essential to achieving a sustainable resolution.
Sugiono also urged the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic Countries—which includes Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Pakistan—to maintain unwavering collective support for the Palestinian cause.
“We must deliver a strong message. We want to see that our efforts truly result in progress and change for the Palestinian people,” he said.
The minister made the remarks during a ministerial meeting of the bloc in New York on Monday (September 21).
The gathering built on coordination efforts that began on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2025, aimed at finding concrete mechanisms to resolve the conflict.
The coalition continues to coordinate with international stakeholders, including the United States, to sustain diplomatic momentum and drive collective action toward a peaceful resolution in Gaza.
Sugiono is currently leading the Indonesian delegation to the 81st UNGA. He is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s national statement during the General Debate on Saturday (September 26), where he will outline Jakarta’s perspectives on pressing global challenges.
His speech is expected to emphasize Indonesia’s commitment to multilateralism, consensus-building amid geopolitical crises, and defending the interests of the Global South.
