Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia called on the international community to unite against what it described as Israel’s escalating actions in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque, during a ministerial meeting in Jordan.
Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir delivered the message at a ministerial meeting on Jerusalem and its holy sites in Amman on Wednesday, according to a Foreign Ministry statement issued Thursday.
“Indonesia urged the international community to abandon silence over Israel’s violations and not allow itself to become divided in responding to them,” Nasir said.
“Division is the crack that Israel has always exploited,” he added.
Nasir said the Middle East’s political landscape had changed significantly following increasing violence by Israeli settlers in the West Bank, Israel’s military operations in Gaza, military actions in Syria and Lebanon, and the US-Iran war.
He said support for Palestine was not solely a Muslim issue but part of a broader global struggle, particularly for countries in the Global South.
“Moreover, countries considered closer to Israel have imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank,” Nasir said.
He called on countries attending the Amman meeting to build a broad international coalition in support of Palestine.
Nasir proposed five measures, including developing a common strategy and upholding international law and rulings of the International Court of Justice.
He also called for wider recognition of the State of Palestine, stronger protection for the Al Aqsa Mosque, and support for Gaza’s reconstruction, Palestinian reconciliation and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Nasir also reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for Jordan’s Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites, including the Al Aqsa Mosque.
The meeting was attended by delegates from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Egypt, Turkiye, Tunisia, Somalia, Pakistan, Morocco, Palestine, Malaysia and Qatar, along with the Arab League secretary-general.
In their joint statement, the delegates reaffirmed their support for Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem, opposed unilateral relocation of diplomatic missions to Jerusalem, and committed to publicize crimes of the zionist regime and its effects.
