Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto called on BRICS member countries to strengthen domestic resilience and self-reliance, stressing that national sovereignty depends on a country’s ability to chart its own course without external influence.
Addressing world leaders during a limited session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, Prabowo emphasized that true independence requires countries to build strength from within.
“We do not like being dictated to by one or two specific powers,” Prabowo said, according to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat.
According to Prabowo, the participant countries should be resilient and then self-reliant. “We have strengthened our foundations to maintain peace and build trust,” he added.
The President emphasized that national security and sovereignty begin with the ability to meet basic domestic needs, specifically food, energy, education, and social welfare, before expanding international influence.

While stressing the importance of domestic strength, the President noted that strategic partnerships within multilateral forums like BRICS reinforce individual national security.
He highlighted inter-regional energy connectivity as a primary area for practical cooperation among member countries.
“Energy is a clear example. We connect our energy systems and strengthen energy security across our regions to drive our economies and build sustainable resilience,” he said.
As one of BRICS’ newest members, Prabowo expressed gratitude to the founding nations for welcoming Indonesia into the forum, which encompasses a significant portion of the global population.
The 18th BRICS Summit is taking place at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from Sept. 12–13 under the chairmanship of India.
