Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has officially confirmed a 430-athlete contingent to compete in 35 sports at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, two fewer athletes than previously registered.
Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) President Raja Sapta Oktohari confirmed the contingent at the Wisma Serbaguna complex at Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Indonesian Contingent Chef de Mission (CdM) Todotua Pasaribu said the number of athletes had previously stood at 432 during the entry-by-name stage before being finalized at 430 through the Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM).
The CdM report did not specify the names or sports of the two athletes who were dropped from the final lineup.
“The Indonesian Team contingent will be made up of 430 athletes and 145 officials across 35 sports,” Todotua said.
Indonesia has also prepared 78 support staff, including doctors, masseurs, physiotherapists and headquarters personnel, to assist the contingent during its stay in Japan.
Todotua said the CdM team, together with NOC Indonesia and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, had carried out a series of preparations, including visits to sports federations, coordination with team managers and officials, and support for athletes.
Some members of the Indonesian contingent have already departed for Japan. The basketball and fencing teams were among the first groups to leave after their travel routes were adjusted due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
The two teams traveled by land to Surabaya before continuing their journey by air via Singapore to Japan.
Todotua said the CdM team would ensure that non-technical needs, including accommodation, transportation, and support services, were properly managed so athletes could focus on their competitions.
The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are scheduled to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4.
