Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) deployed the hospital ship KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 on Monday for a humanitarian and diplomatic mission to four countries namely Vanuatu, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea.
The vessel departed Jakarta after being sent off by Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago and senior military officials.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony, Djamari said the ship’s personnel, comprising members of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), Indonesian Army (TNI AD), Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), National Police (Polri), and university students, would embark on a 60-day voyage.
During the mission, the vessel will visit the four countries to provide free medical services aboard the ship and strengthen diplomatic ties between Indonesia and the host nations.
“The KRI is a warship, and wherever it docks, it carries strength and serves as a platform for diplomacy,” Djamari stressed.
To ensure the success of the humanitarian mission, he urged the personnel to follow several key directives, including strict compliance with security rules and safety protocols while onboard.
Djamari also called on the personnel to maintain their health and personal safety throughout the assignment, reminding them that their families were eagerly awaiting their return home.
“Finally, showcase your Indonesian identity. Demonstrate our care and commitment to fostering close relations with South Pacific nations,” he added.
Djamari expressed confidence that, by following these directives, all personnel would successfully carry out their duties and return home safely.
