Indonesia deports Chinese fugitive wanted by Interpol

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration has deported a Chinese national wanted by Interpol and Chinese authorities over alleged money laundering in China.

The individual, identified only by the initials SS, was subject to an Interpol Red Notice and was listed among China’s most-wanted fugitives.

Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko said in a statement issued on Tuesday (October 27) that the deportation followed a formal request from the International Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to support ongoing legal proceedings in China.

“Whenever we receive actionable intelligence regarding international fugitives located within Indonesian territory, the Directorate General of Immigration coordinates closely with relevant law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action in accordance with statutory authority and prevailing regulations,” Marantoko said.

The operation began on Sunday (October 25), when immigration officers in Bali, working with central authorities and the police, apprehended SS and transferred him to Jakarta.

Upon arrival in the capital, SS was held at the Directorate General of Immigration’s detention facility while officials processed his deportation documents. The Chinese Embassy in Jakarta subsequently issued emergency travel documents for him.

SS was deported on Monday (October 26) and handed over directly to Chinese police escorts for repatriation to Beijing.

Marantoko said the cross-border operation underscored Indonesia’s commitment to international law enforcement cooperation and its efforts to prevent the country from becoming a safe haven for transnational criminals.

“The cross-border movement of people is not solely about facilitating immigration services. It inherently carries critical dimensions of surveillance, border security, and law enforcement,” he said.
