Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) – Tanjungpinang Immigration Detention Center in Riau Islands Province has deported two foreign nationals from Palestine and Nigeria for violating Indonesian immigration and travel-document requirements.

Tanjungpinang Detention Center official I Wayan Putu Wiadnya said here Thursday that the two were deported on Tuesday, August 18, through the immigration checkpoint at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang.

The Palestinian national faced administrative immigration action after overstaying in Indonesia, violating Article 78(3) of Immigration Law No. 6 of 2011.

The Nigerian national could not show immigration officers a valid travel document or residence permit, violating Article 71(b) of the Immigration Law.

Before deportation, both nationals were detained at the Tanjungpinang center, where officials verified their identities, secured them and completed required travel documents.

Wayan said deportation is an administrative immigration measure against foreigners who violate Indonesian immigration regulations.

“We returned them and ensured the entire process was conducted professionally, orderly, safely and accountably,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tanjungpinang Detention Center Head Erybowo Radyan Asmono said the deportations enforced immigration law while helping maintain order concerning foreigners’ presence in Indonesia.

“Immigration law enforcement is essential to protecting national sovereignty, but it must remain firm, professional and guided by humanitarian principles,” Erybowo said.

He stressed that all foreigners must comply with Indonesian immigration laws and regulations, while violations require the state to provide legal certainty.

According to Erybowo, every administrative immigration measure is intended to ensure legal certainty, security and order regarding foreigners’ presence in Indonesia.

“The deportation of these foreigners reflects the detention center’s commitment to maintaining order concerning foreigners’ presence in Indonesia,” he said.
