Indonesia details work sectors, quotas for ‘SMK Go Global’ Program

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) has detailed the labor demands, work sectors, and professional options available for applicants of the 2026 Vocational High School (SMK) Go Global program.

Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Mukhtarudin stated in an official release here on Tuesday (August 11th) that the program is part of the government’s strategy to build a workforce preparation ecosystem directly connected to international job market demands.

The hospitality sector is currently seeking 14,140 workers for placements in Türkiye, Malaysia, the Maldives, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Eastern Europe. Available roles include spa therapists, housekeeping staff, cleaners, waiters, baristas, and cooks.

Meanwhile, the healthcare sector has opened registrations for 12,780 individuals to work as general caregivers, elderly care assistants, and nursing home staff. Destination countries for this sector include Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan, and Germany.

Job opportunities are also available for 6,400 people in the manufacturing sector, targeting those with skills in welding, molding, and production operations for placements in South Korea, Qatar, and Taiwan.

Another major sector is agriculture, offering 4,300 positions in palm oil plantations, livestock farming, aquaculture, forestry, and general farming across Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan.

Applicants proficient in English, Japanese, German, Mandarin, and Korean can opt for the language training sector, which offers 1,700 vacancies.

Additionally, the construction sector requires 400 workers, the maritime and shipping sector needs 220 fishermen and merchant ship crew members; and the transportation sector has openings for 60 drivers, bus operators, and truck drivers.

Mukhtarudin stated that the allocation of these sectors was formulated based on actual industry demands, ensuring that participants undergo training for skills that are highly sought after in the destination countries.

He expressed hope that the targeted placement of Indonesian migrant workers through the SMK Go Global program will help reduce the number of citizens seeking employment abroad through unofficial and potentially unsafe channels.

“Through capacity building starting from the preparation stage, the government hopes more prospective migrant workers will secure employment through official procedures, acquire skills that meet global labor market demands, and ultimately improve the welfare of themselves and their families,” he remarked.
