Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Primary and Secondary Education Ministry said it is strengthening collaboration to expand access to quality reading materials while improving students’ literacy.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti said in a written statement issued here on Sunday that the ministry continues to intensify efforts to provide quality education for all children with support from the central government, regional governments, the business sector, and the public.
According to him, providing quality reading materials is not solely the government’s responsibility. Regional governments and the private sector also have opportunities to help enrich students’ reading resources.
He said reading habits need to be continuously fostered because not all knowledge can be acquired in classrooms, which are limited by time and space.
In addition to printed books, the ministry has also introduced the Rumah Pendidikan platform, which allows teachers and students to download textbooks and supplementary reading materials free of charge in digital, audio, and video formats.
Mu’ti said the platform is expected to expand access to quality learning resources.
Senior expert at the Government Communications Agency (Bakom) Hariqo Wibawa Satria praised the ministry’s commitment to delivering inclusive, quality education, including the provision of Braille books and audio and video learning resources for children with special needs.
“These efforts must continue to be strengthened as part of improving the quality of national literacy,” he said.
Satria also called on all stakeholders to work together to broaden access to quality reading materials so that more students can develop strong reading and writing skills.
Meanwhile, Head of the Language Development and Fostering Agency Hafidz Muksin said this year’s book distribution program covers 510 districts and cities across 38 provinces, prioritizing schools whose literacy performance is below the minimum competency level based on the National Assessment (AN).
Muksin expressed hope that more Indonesian children would gain access to quality reading materials, enabling them to grow into individuals who can contribute to the nation’s development.
“We hope what we are doing will produce intelligent and critical students with character who can support Indonesia’s development,” he said.
