Jakarta (ANTARA) – A total of 450 policewomen from 43 countries attended the 63rd International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Annual Training Conference, held from September 20 to 24 in Badung, Bali.
This year’s conference marks the second time Indonesia has hosted the IAWP conference, following Labuan Bajo’s hosting of the 58th edition in 2021 under the theme “Women at the Centerstage of Policing.”
“It is an honor for Indonesia to once again be entrusted with hosting the IAWP Conference, following the event held in Labuan Bajo in 2021,” National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said in a statement on Sunday.
He said the international forum addresses various challenges facing modern policing, ranging from women’s leadership, human trafficking, and technology-facilitated violence to counterterrorism and transnational crime.
This year, the IAWP adopted the theme “Women Leading Global Change.”
The conference brought together delegates from around the globe, including 164 participants from Indonesia, 48 from Tanzania, 36 from Canada, 19 from the United States, 18 from the United Kingdom, 16 from Australia, and 14 from South Korea, as well as participants from dozens of other countries.
Prominent international policing figures also attended, including IAWP President Julia Jaeger, Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett, and Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko.
The five-day conference went beyond women’s representation and leadership, with training sessions addressing concrete challenges faced by police forces worldwide.
Topics discussed included women’s leadership, complex investigations, disaster victim identification, human trafficking, counterterrorism, technology-facilitated violence, police technological transformation, and transnational organized crime.
General Listyo emphasized that such cooperation is becoming increasingly important as criminal methods evolve across borders and exploit technological advances, including artificial intelligence (AI).
The 2026 IAWP conference is therefore expected to serve as a platform for policewomen to exchange experiences and best practices, while building networks and fostering sustainable international cooperation.
“Together, we empower women, strengthen policing, maintain peace, and lead global change,” he said.
