Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Forestry launched a national movement encouraging simultaneous efforts to restore natural ecosystems across Indonesia, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive on environmental sustainability.
Director General of Natural Resource and Ecosystem Conservation Satyawan Pudyatmoko said the nationwide campaign’s kick-off marked the culmination of activities commemorating the 2026 National Nature Conservation Day (HKAN).
Speaking at Angke Nature Tourism Park in Jakarta on Monday, he explained that the Forestry Ministry intends to mobilize 74 regional technical service units across the country to carry out the movement.
He also highlighted that this year’s HKAN celebrations carried the theme “Nature Conservation: Working Together to Preserve Indonesia’s Nature,” underscoring the importance of collaboration across institutions and generations in safeguarding biodiversity.
Pudyatmoko observed that Indonesia is facing increasingly demanding challenges in protecting and restoring ecosystems, prompting the government to seek a more active role from communities, businesses, academics, and the media.
In addition to launching the national movement, the HKAN event featured mangrove planting and the release of 15 black-headed ibises (Threskiornis melanocephalus) as a demonstration of concrete steps toward protecting ecosystems and wildlife.
On a broader scale, he said the Forestry Ministry aims to revitalize 12.3 million hectares of degraded land nationwide by 2030.
To that end, the Mangrove for Coastal Resilience program was launched, focusing on rehabilitating 41,000 hectares of mangrove areas through 2027 across Riau, North Sumatra, East Kalimantan, and North Kalimantan.
“These are the efforts we will continue to make. The Ministry of Forestry is committed to building awareness that nature conservation is a long-term undertaking,” Pudyatmoko said.
He expressed hope that the 2026 HKAN would inspire institutions and the wider public to sustain measures to protect Indonesia’s natural ecosystems and resources.
