Indonesia, Kuwait explore cooperation on village development

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions has invited Kuwait to collaborate in optimizing village development across Indonesia.

“We hope to establish concrete cooperation in developing villages in Indonesia, focusing on both local village potential and human resources,” Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions Yandri Susanto said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

He received Kuwaiti Ambassador to Indonesia Khalid Jassim Alyassin at his office on Wednesday (August 26).

Yandri said that Indonesia is home to 75,266 villages, each possessing diverse potential.

To tap into this, he added, the ministry has introduced 12 village development programs, including the Red and White Village Cooperatives, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), export-oriented villages, and tourism villages.

According to the Minister, villages in Indonesia still need more places of worship, educational facilities, healthcare facilities, and human resource development programs.

He added that villages now play an important role, as President Prabowo Subianto made village-based development one of the priorities of his administration, with the aim of promoting economic equality and eradicating poverty.

The Minister expressed hope that the ministry could establish formal cooperation with Kuwait as well as Kuwaiti organizations and associations.

During the meeting, Kuwaiti Ambassador Khalid Jassim Alyassin said diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Indonesia, which date back to 1968, should be further strengthened through formal cooperation between the two governments.

He added that Kuwait also has private organizations and charities that raise funds to provide assistance to other countries.

This assistance is used to support orphan welfare, construct Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and mosques, as well as provide fishing boats to help local fishers earn a decent livelihood.
