Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government is mapping the readiness of national regulations for its accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The Deputy for Economic and Investment Cooperation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, said Indonesia is strengthening inter-agency coordination in response to an indicative checklist evaluating how well national regulations align with CPTPP provisions.
“Amid uncertainty in international economic relations, trust in agreed-upon rules becomes increasingly important,” Edi said in a statement on Friday.
Indonesia believes an orderly, transparent, and fair trading system provides certainty for businesses while ensuring the benefits of economic integration are felt by the broader public, he added.
Edi noted that the government’s preparations span key areas such as market access, investment, customs, rules of origin, government procurement, competition policy, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), digital trade, labor, and the environment.
Through this mapping, the government is urging all ministries and agencies to strengthen synergy in preparing a comprehensive and transparent response to CPTPP provisions.
Indonesia previously welcomed the CPTPP Commission’s decision in June 2023 to launch preparatory talks with Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates, following an assessment under the Auckland Principles.
“This stage provides an opportunity for Indonesia to explain its existing policies, gather feedback, and identify areas that still need strengthening. The subsequent formation of an Accession Working Group (AWG) remains subject to applicable procedures and the consensus of CPTPP members,” he said.
The Indonesian government views CPTPP accession as an opportunity to deepen economic partnerships and support supply chain diversification. Membership in the trade pact is also expected to unlock opportunities for businesses in the manufacturing and services sectors.
