Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, called for an immediate end to armed conflicts in the Middle East and other parts of the world, emphasizing that attacks on sovereign nations cannot be justified.
Delivering his introductory address at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliament Complex on Friday, Muzani stated that territorial sovereignty and political independence must be respected by all nations.
“No country should feel entitled to determine the fate of another nation,” Muzani said.
He urged global leaders to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue to resolve international disputes, stating that nations must not lose patience in pursuing peaceful negotiations.
“The world does not need war; the world needs the courage to make peace,” Muzani added, defining peace as restraint and putting human life above ambitions for power.
Muzani reaffirmed that Indonesia’s Constitution mandates active participation in maintaining world order based on independence, eternal peace, and social justice.
He stressed that Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy requires remaining non-aligned and rejecting war as a means to settle disputes.
Invoking a principles-based diplomatic approach, Muzani quoted President Prabowo Subianto’s stance: “A thousand friends are too few, while one enemy is too many.”
The joint parliamentary session was held as part of state proceedings commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence, themed “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.”
