Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Myanmar have agreed to expand cooperation in higher education and pilot training, including academic exchanges and a program to train four Myanmar students in Indonesia, during Indonesia Expo 2026 in Yangon.
The agreements were reached on Saturday (October 31), the expo’s opening day, according to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon received in Jakarta on Monday.
Widyatama University and Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering student and faculty exchanges, joint research, academic seminars, and scientific publications.
President University also signed an MoU with Knowledge Management & Dedication Company Limited (KMD), covering cooperation in education, research, community service, and student exchanges.
The universities plan to develop implementation agreements and explore undergraduate scholarship opportunities for Myanmar students, as well as cultural exchange programs.
“These outcomes create opportunities for Myanmar’s younger generation to develop their skills while building closer ties with the Indonesian people,” the embassy said.
Separately, Perkasa Flight School agreed to provide pilot training in Indonesia for four Myanmar students.
The embassy said the agreement followed an MoU signed by Perkasa Flight School and Myanmar Airways in early 2026.
It reflected the Myanmar partner’s confidence in the professional training offered by an Indonesian institution, the embassy said. Four MoUs in the energy sector were also signed during the expo’s opening day on Friday (October 30).
The embassy said it would continue coordinating with the parties involved to ensure that the agreements reached during the expo were translated into concrete programs that benefit both countries.
Indonesia Expo 2026 brought together 77 participants and featured two business forums focusing on the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in energy, industry, and retail, as well as the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the creative economy.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade, bilateral trade between Indonesia and Myanmar reached US$958.9 million (around Rp17.38 trillion) in 2025 and US$687.1 million (around Rp12.45 trillion) in January-August 2026.
